You don’t have to relive the past to heal from it

Heal trauma at its roots.

EMDR therapy helps you move forward—so you can feel like yourself again.

You might be a good fit for EMDR therapy if you’ve been through something painful—recently or long ago—that still feels like it’s living in your body or looping in your mind.

Maybe memories come up unexpectedly, or your reactions to everyday things feel more intense than you’d like.

You might have tried talk therapy and found some relief, but still sense that something deeper needs to shift. EMDR therapy offers a different path—one that helps you heal without having to relive every detail of the past.

You’re ready to stop feeling…

Anxious or hypervigilant without knowing why

Disconnected from self and others

The past always playing in the background of daily life

When talk is not enough.

  • EMDR therapy works with your brain’s natural healing processes—similar to what happens during REM sleep, the stage of sleep where your eyes move back and forth and your brain is busy processing the events of your day.

Think of it like this: throughout the day, your brain is gathering information—maybe you went to work, had dinner with your family, exercised, talked with a friend. While you sleep, your brain sorts all that information, like files going into folders: one for family, one for work, one for health, and so on.

But when something traumatic or overwhelming happens—like witnessing a car accident or experiencing violence—your brain can’t process the memory in the usual way. The emotional part of your brain (responsible for survival) kicks in, and the thinking, organizing part (the frontal lobe) essentially goes offline. Because of this, the memory doesn’t get filed away like the others. This can lead to anxiety, flashbacks, or emotional reactions that seem out of proportion to what’s happening in the present.

Here’s another example: imagine a veteran who’s been in combat. Years later, they’re safe at home, but during a 4th of July party, the sound of fireworks sends them diving under a table. Their brain hasn’t registered that they’re no longer in danger—because that traumatic memory was never fully processed or filed into the past..

  • In EMDR, I’ll ask you to think about the memory that’s still bothering you—just enough to notice it—and I’ll guide your eyes back and forth, mimicking rapid eye movement in REM sleep. It activates the brain’s natural processing system, allowing the memory to be “filed” into the past, where it belongs. It becomes part of your story, instead of something that controls your present.

  • EMDR helps you heal from past experiences that are getting in the way of how you want to feel and live now. Whether you’re working toward less anxiety, more confidence, or better relationships, EMDR helps your brain process stuck memories so they stop triggering present-day reactions. You stay in control throughout. The goal is for those memories to lose their emotional charge—so your brain can recognize that you’re safe now, and your body can start to believe that too.

The Process

01

Prepare

EMDR follows 8 phases, but we move at a pace that feels right for you. We start by building safety and teaching grounding tools before working with any painful memories.

02

Engage

When you’re ready, we use gentle eye movements to help your brain process stuck memories so they don’t feel like they’re happening now.

03

Integrate

Meeting weekly is best once we start processing, to keep momentum and support healing. You stay in control, and EMDR isn’t about reliving trauma—it’s about releasing it.

  • No, EMDR is not hypnosis. You remain fully aware and present throughout the session. EMDR uses something called bilateral stimulation—a gentle back-and-forth movement like guided eye movements or tapping—to help your brain process painful memories. It’s about helping your brain do what it naturally knows how to do.

  • No—you don’t have to share details or relive the experience. EMDR works by helping your brain process the painful memories, even without talking through everything out loud.

  • You’re in control the whole time. We’ll pause or slow down whenever you need, and I’ll support you with grounding tools to help you feel safe.

  • It varies. Some people feel relief after a few sessions of processing; others take longer. We’ll work together to find what’s right for you.
